If you’re new to my community, welcome. I’m so happy you’re here! Grab a coffee and get comfy because we’re about to dive into the importance of having a birthing BFF, which is exactly what you get when you work with me!
Keeping things professional is always top priority… BUT I also think that when you’re in the business of supporting women, it’s just as important (maybe even more important) to be a real person. And for me, that means being a real friend.
So, here are the top 3 ways that I’m more like your Birthing Bestie than just your average your birthing professional.
Whenever potential clients ask me what my birth philosophy is, I always have a hard time coming up with an answer. Not because my philosophy on birth is super long or specific… it’s because I don’t… have one…?
OK, I realize that might sound a little weird coming from someone whose passion is in the birthing space, but hear me out.
Essentially, my philosophy is YOUR philosophy.
As your doula educator, it’s not my job to tell you what I think is right/wrong/whatever when it comes to birthing (or parenting) preferences. My job is to be sure that YOU feel good about your choices and decisions when it comes to your prenatal and postpartum care.
I support YOU!
Of course, when you work with me, you also get full access to my brain- so we do talk about options, benefits and risks about all.the.things.
But really, if you decide that you want an epidural, I want you to have an epidural. If you decide you want to be induced at 39 weeks, I want you to be induced at 39 weeks. If you decide you want an unmedicated water birth with a midwife at home, I want you to have that.
And guess what?
If you decide to change your mind- at any point- I ROLL WITH IT!
This Birthing Bestie wants what YOU want. And that is that.
That profession may sound as made up as the word “validator”, but it’s true. Validating you, your thoughts, emotions, feelings and reactions is Birthing Bestie 101. I really am a pro at it.
When you’re pregnant or postpartum (or just human), there are SO many things that make us feel SO many ways (thanks, hormones) and I’m here to remind you that it’s OKAY to feel the way you do.
Just like your best friend, I’m only a call or text away when your partner eats the last….anything and you’re HANGRY. Or when the nurse makes a comment about the number on the scale at your last appointment. Or when your Aunt questions your birthing preferences (again), just to follow it up with her own traumatic birth story… I’m ALL ears!
Listen, validate, pep talk, repeat.
You can’t help how you feel sometimes, so instead of bottling it up or lashing out at the people you love, just holla! Let’s grab a coffee and spill the tea. Once we chat, you’ll feel so much better!
I firmly believe that community is the lifeline of motherhood.
When you work with me, my network of professionals becomes your network of professionals.
You want to find ways to stay active in pregnancy, but don’t want to push your body to its limits? Meet my friend Ashley, or Tess – two amazing prenatal yoga instructors.
You’re feeling super anxious about the possibility of tearing when pushing? You HAVE to let me introduce you to my friends at Vitalize Physical Therapy.
You just found out that your baby might not be in the most optimal birthing position and your nervous they’ll flip breech?
Make an appointment at Foundations Chiropractic ASAP and ask for Dr. Danielle – she’s the best!
I’ve got a professional (friend) for just about every scenario.
Don’t know a ton of other expecting moms or mamas of littles? I’ve got those friends that I can introduce you to, as well!
Every one of my clients is invited to Monthly Mama Meet-ups where we get together to just hang out… talk about pregnancy or birth, or the latest episode of This is Us… anything!
Just being around other women who know exactly what you’re going through is SO therapeutic!
So when I’m your Birthing Bestie, my friends are your friends!
It doesn’t matter if this is your first pregnancy or your fifth, you deserve to have a birthing bestie by your side, and I’m perfect for the job!
